The Rafflesia flower is endangered because of the loss of habitat as human population clears rain forest. This flower taking about 5 years to first appear, only to last for 5 short days, and then only come out about every 3 years. The flower buds can be use in traditional medicine to promote delivery and recovery during and after childbirth. However, of this ecotourism and the resulting human disturbance, the number of flower buds produced per year has decreased. so that it is important to save this plant.
